Hearing protection decreases the amount of noise coming into your ears, effectively protecting your ears from harmful noise. Hearing protection also helps lower the volume of an environment so that workers can be exposed for longer.
For example, if a construction worker is being exposed to 100dB of noise at a site, he can only be working for 15 minutes. However if he gets protective headphones that have a reduction of 20dB, it lowers the noise to 80dB and it is safe for the worker to be on site for 8 hours.
